Secure, High-Performing EMV-Capable Devices
Here at Shift4, we have chosen to check out the following devices for EMV certification because of its quality, safety, security, and competence. These models are also tamper-resistant and tamper-responsive. These devices are able to process EMV chip cards, magnetic stripe credit and debit, and contactless payments. Each device is also compliant to SRED and Point-to-point encryption that offers encryption within the first point of interaction, along with the True Tokenization that can reduce PCI scope and enable breach protection.
Ingenico Products - Ingenico iPP320 and Ingenico iPP350
As we have discussed, the iPP320 and the Ingenico iPP350 are able to process EMV chip cards. However, these POS terminals are great for high-volume, but primarily low-ticket-value transactions. It is ideal for single-lane terminals, but you can note that an electronic signature capture won’t be required.
With its portable design, the Ingenico Ipp320 and Ipp350 take up less space due to the fact it is compact and lightweight. On top of that, it is a plug-and-play device so it allows for quick installment and easy use. Both Ingenico Products are PCI PTS V3.0 certified, but the iPP320 has a white backlit LCD monochrome display while the Ingenico iPP350 has a slightly larger TFT color display.
More on the EMV Liability Shift
Lastly, it’s significant to remember that the EMV liability shift requirements may not be easily met, each card user won’t be facing similar liability risks when it comes to credit card fraud. This is why it may not be logical to spend a lot of money on an equipment upgrade. Since the purpose of the EMV is to avoid fraudulent activities caused by counterfeit, skimmed and lost or stolen credit or debit cards in card-present environments, these devices might not be the best solution. There are a few industries, such as retailers or high-ticket stores, that will be more prone to fraud and these merchants will need devices that are EMV-ready. However, you may check out the present chargeback and fraud rate to check if the EMV liability shift has a huge effect on your business.
